Sustainability
At Far West Scallops, sustainability it’s a core value that drives every aspect of our business. From our fishing practices to our packaging, we take a holistic approach to environmental stewardship. We recognise that the long-term viability of our business depends on the health of our oceans, and as such, we are committed to carefully managing and protecting the marine ecosystems we rely on.
Each of our fisheries undergoes a comprehensive assessment to ensure our practices meet the highest sustainability standards. By investing in sustainable fishing technologies and packaging solutions, and through our ongoing partnership with organizations like the MSC, we’re working to ensure that future generations can enjoy the same high-quality scallops that we provide today, without compromising the environment.
We are proud of the steps we've taken, and we’re excited about the future of sustainable seafood. Our mission is to continue to push the boundaries of sustainability in the seafood industry, ensuring that our practices today help protect our oceans for tomorrow.
Sustainable packaging
At Far West Scallops, we understand that packaging plays a critical role in both protecting our products and in communicating our brand. However, we also recognize the environmental impact packaging can have, stretching across its entire lifecycle—from the sourcing of raw materials, through to its journey via retailers, and its eventual disposal.
That’s why we’ve committed to using packaging solutions that minimize our environmental footprint. We prioritize materials that are recyclable, biodegradable, and sustainably sourced, reducing the waste that ends up in landfills and helping to protect our oceans. We’re continuously striving to innovate our packaging practices, working closely with suppliers to make sure we’re using the best options available to reduce environmental harm.
Sustainable fishing
All of the fisheries where Far West operates have been rigorously assessed for sustainability by the Fisheries Research and Development Corporation (FRDC). This independent evaluation confirms that our fishing practices are in line with the highest standards of sustainability, ensuring that our scallops are responsibly sourced and that the marine environment is preserved.
We’re proud to say that our fishing practices promote healthy ecosystems, and we’re committed to continual improvement. In collaboration with the Marine Stewardship Council (MSC) and the Western Australian government, we aim to secure certification for our major fisheries in the near future, further demonstrating our dedication to sustainability.
